Progression Rules
Understand how workout history can inform your next weight, rep, or set recommendation.
How progression rules work
Progression rules use completed workout history to suggest a change the next time an exercise appears. They are configured on eligible templates and are available with Pro or Coaching access. A recommendation is a planning aid, not a guarantee of progress.
Common rule types
- Linear progression: recommend increasing weight after the prescribed reps are achieved.
- Double progression: build reps within a target range before increasing weight.
- Set/rep scheme progression: change the prescribed set and rep pattern after repeated misses.
- Failure-based deload: recommend a lower load after repeated misses.
Load rounding and units
For supported plate-loaded exercises, recommendations can account for available bars and plates. Your preferred unit controls how new values are entered and displayed. Changing between pounds and kilograms does not automatically convert earlier entries.
